The Federal Government has intensified efforts to modernise the nation’s civil service with the introduction of a service-wide GPT initiative aimed at improving innovation, knowledge access and operational efficiency across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, disclosed this in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Abuja Zone of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria during a courtesy visit led by the Zone Chairperson, Rose N. Eshiette.
Walson-Jack said the GPT-driven reform initiative forms part of ongoing measures to reposition the Federal Civil Service for greater efficiency, innovation and improved service delivery across government establishments.
She explained that the initiative is expected to enhance access to institutional knowledge and strengthen operational processes within MDAs as the government continues its push for technology-driven reforms in the public sector.
The Head of Service also revealed that efforts were underway to develop a comprehensive compendium of circulars issued over the years to improve institutional memory, policy accessibility and administrative consistency within the civil service.
According to her, the reforms are designed to strengthen professionalism, accountability and institutional effectiveness across the public service.
Earlier, Eshiette said the visit formed part of stakeholder engagement efforts by the Institute aimed at promoting excellence in corporate governance, ethical leadership and sustainable institutional development in Nigeria.
She formally presented an invitation to the Head of Service to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the investiture ceremony of the 11th Chairperson of the CIoD Abuja Zone scheduled for June 11, 2026, in Abuja.
Responding, Walson-Jack appreciated the Institute for the honour and assured the delegation that the event had been noted in her schedule.
She also encouraged the participation of Permanent Secretaries in support of initiatives geared towards strengthening leadership culture and governance standards within the public service.
The CIoD delegation commended the Head of Service for what it described as her visionary leadership and commitment to modernising the civil service through strategic governance reforms and technology-driven initiatives.
