Makinde visits COCIN headquarters in Jos, urges Christians to shape Nigeria’s political future

Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has called on Christians to take an active role in Nigeria’s political process, saying their participation is important in determining the country’s future.

Makinde made the call on Sunday during a church service at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, Plateau State, where he urged believers not to distance themselves from politics because of the challenges associated with it.

The governor said Nigeria was at a defining moment and that citizens, including Christians, had a responsibility to participate in decisions that would shape the country’s direction.

He argued that Christians should not abandon the political space to others but should make their voices heard through active participation in the democratic process.

“Please, get ready and participate. History is about to happen again,” Makinde told the congregation.

The visit provided an opportunity for the APM presidential candidate to speak about his ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections and present his proposed agenda for addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

Makinde maintained that his presidential ambition was not backed by political godfathers but by his faith in God and the support of Nigerians.

He recalled that when he declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship in 2018, some people questioned how he could achieve the ambition without the backing of influential politicians.

According to him, he maintained that he had God the Father, a conviction he said was vindicated when he eventually became governor.

He expressed optimism that God would show mercy to Nigeria by providing the country with the right leadership in 2027.

Speaking on his proposed approach to national governance, Makinde said his RESET NIGERIA Agenda was developed to address the country’s economic, security, educational and socio-political challenges.

He presented the manifesto to the COCIN leadership and said Nigerians should hold him accountable for the commitments contained in the document.

The governor explained that the agenda was built around four pillars: security, the economy, education and the socio-political space.

He said his experience in Oyo State had shown the importance of development planning, transparency and accountability in governance.

Responding, the President of COCIN, Rev. Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo, drew attention to the challenges confronting Nigeria, particularly insecurity and economic hardship.

Mohzo prayed for Makinde and encouraged him to continue his political journey, expressing hope that God’s will would prevail.

The visit came ahead of the APM presidential campaign rally scheduled to hold at Rayfield Park, Jos, on Monday.
