The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has welcomed the Plateau State Government’s intervention with the flag-off of the Mban–Gwiwakogi Bridge and its 5.8-kilometre access road in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The project was flagged off on February 11, 2026, on behalf of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang by the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven, at a ceremony held in the council area.
Tyem said the bridge project would address long-standing transportation difficulties faced by residents of communities along the Mban–Gwiwakogi axis, particularly during the rainy season when movement across the river is often disrupted.
He noted that the absence of a functional bridge had affected economic activities in the area, adding that improved access would ease the movement of agricultural produce and enhance commercial interaction between Langtang North and neighbouring Wase Local Government Area.
The council chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Mutfwang for approving the project, describing it as part of the state government’s efforts to extend infrastructure development to rural communities across Plateau State.
Tyem assured the state government and the contractor, Craneburg Construction Company, of the cooperation of the local government and host communities, stating that traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other stakeholders had been mobilised to support the project and ensure its protection.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Works said the construction of the bridge became imperative following repeated incidents at the river crossing point, including the loss of lives during the last rainy season.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing infrastructure that improves safety and supports economic growth.
The member representing Langtang North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Abel Nansak Nimchak, also commended the collaboration between the state and local governments, describing the bridge as a long-awaited solution to a major challenge in the area.
The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers led by the Ponzhi Gani, serving and former lawmakers, members of the Langtang North Local Government Executive Council, officials from Wase Local Government Area, and other stakeholders.
