UNIJOS Inducts 150 New Medical Laboratory Scientists

The University of Jos has formally inducted 150 graduates from its Department of Medical Laboratory Science into the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), strengthening Nigeria’s frontline diagnostic workforce.

Held at the institution’s School of Medical Sciences, the 10th induction and oath-taking ceremony brought together university officials, healthcare professionals, families, and stakeholders to celebrate the milestone.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishaya Tanko, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Joash Amopitan, described the ceremony as a significant contribution to national health development.

He congratulated the inductees on their successful transition into professional practice and reminded them of the ethical responsibilities that come with their roles.

As medical laboratory scientists, your work is central to accurate diagnosis and patient care. You are expected to uphold integrity and professionalism at every stage of your career,” he said.

The guest lecture, titled “Pursuing Excellence with Integrity: An Essential Requirement for a Truly Successful Career,” was delivered by Professor Godwin Imade. He urged the graduands to be intentional about their values, to work with humility, and to prioritize teamwork over rivalry.

Also speaking, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Jeremiah Madaki, stated that the university’s medical programs remain committed to producing globally competitive professionals across the healthcare spectrum.

According to him, the training offered by the University of Jos prepares students not only for national service but also for international engagement, given the growing demand for qualified medical laboratory scientists worldwide.

In a message of appreciation, MLS Bukata Andrew, who spoke on behalf of the inductees, thanked the university, faculty members, and regulatory partners for the academic and moral support received throughout their training.

He assured that the newly inducted professionals would uphold the standards expected of them.Highlights of the event included the oath administered by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), presentation of certificates, and awards for outstanding academic performance.

The University of Jos continues to play a key role in expanding Nigeria’s health workforce, equipping young professionals to meet the growing demands in the medical diagnostic field both at home and abroad.
