The Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Nationalities Community Development Association (CONECDA) Youth Wing has alleged that there is an ongoing plot to assassinate the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Barr. Solomon Mwantiri, citing intelligence reports of a planned targeted killing.
The allegation was contained in a statement dated February 27, 2025, and signed by the National President of CONECDA Youth Wing, Comrade Paul Joshua Dekete.
The group claims the alleged plot is linked to Mwantiri’s outspoken stance against killings and insecurity affecting indigenous communities in Plateau State.
According to the statement, the youth body said it had uncovered what it described as “clandestine moves” by armed Fulani militants to eliminate the youth leader, allegedly by placing a bounty on his head and engaging local collaborators.
“The CONECDA Youth Wing has stumbled on revelations over clandestine moves by murderous Fulani militants to exterminate the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Barr. Solomon Mwantiri, over his firm stance against the ongoing extermination and genocide of his people and other Plateau residents,” the statement read.
The group further alleged that the plot involves financial inducement and surveillance aimed at identifying Mwantiri’s residence and tracking his movements, warning that the threat could extend to members of his family.
“In the strategies recommended by the sponsors of this evil plan, a huge amount of money has been budgeted, and a driver engaged to facilitate the planned target killing by locating the residence of the Berom Youth National President,” the statement alleged.
CONECDA Youth Wing also raised concerns over what it described as lapses within the security architecture, claiming that some individuals entrusted with public safety may be aiding attacks against vulnerable communities and activists.
It is sad that some security agents, instead of guaranteeing the safety of vulnerable villages and individuals such as rights advocates, have lowered themselves to aid in this elimination series, either by tracking his movement or firing at him under the guise of accidental discharge,” the group claimed
The statement warned Mwantiri to exercise heightened caution at public engagements and called on the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and other stakeholders to immediately provide protection for him and his family.
“We call on well-meaning citizens, the Plateau State Government, and relevant authorities to ensure serious security watch around the Youth President so that none of these plans succeed,” the statement added.
The group said it was issuing the warning to prevent any harm and urged youths across Plateau State and the Middle Belt to remain vigilant and united against what it described as attempts to silence vocal community leaders.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Plateau State Government had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the statement.
