Senator I.D. Gyang Resigns from PDP over Alleged Departure from Democratic Values

Senator Istifanus D. Gyang, who represented Plateau North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His resignation, effective May 26, 2025, was conveyed in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Rafan Ward, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Gyang, a prominent figure in Plateau politics, cited the party’s departure from core democratic values and a lack of people-centered governance as the main reasons for his decision.

“After nearly a decade of passionate membership, commitment, and enormous contributions to the growth and success of the PDP, including the 2023 electoral victory, the party has parted ways with basic democratic tenets and is no longer people-centric,” the senator stated in his resignation letter.

He also expressed concern over the party’s internal leadership and its diminishing capacity to effectively advocate for the strategic interests of Plateau State in the national arena.

Gyang, who previously served as Member of the House of Representatives for Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency and later as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, reaffirmed his commitment to equity, fairness, inclusivity, and good governance.

He pledged to continue supporting open and inclusive participation in the political process.

His resignation marks a significant development within the PDP in Plateau State, where he has remained an influential and widely-recognized political actor.
