The Plateau State Government has refuted a recent publication by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) that listed the state among those that failed to publish their 2024 financial statements before the statutory deadline, insisting it met all legal requirements.
It would be recalled that on August 9, 2025, FIJ published a report titled “It’s Past Deadline, 5 States Fail to Publish 2024 Financial Statements”, naming Plateau among states it claimed had not met the legally implied publication timelines for their audited accounts.
In a press statement signed by the Accountant-General of the state, Mrs Naanret A. Manset, the government described the report as “wrong” and “misleading,” adding that Plateau fully complied with all statutory timelines for the preparation, audit, and publication of its 2024 audited financial statements.
According to Manset, the 2024 financial statements were submitted to the Auditor-General in May 2025, which was within the stipulated six-month period.
The audit, she noted, was completed in June 2025 and forwarded to the House of Assembly, in line with the three-month requirement. The document was subsequently approved by the House and published online on July 30, 2025, ahead of the nine-month legal deadline.
“The audited report is publicly available here:https://plateaustate.gov.ng/uploads/PLATEAU_STATE_2024_FINANCIAL_STATEMENT.pdfhttps://plateaustate.gov.ng/uploads/PLATEAU_STATE_2024_FINANCIAL_STATEMENT.pdf
“We urge FIJ to promptly correct their publication and remove Plateau State from the list of non-compliant states. Plateau State remains committed to transparency, accountability, and timely financial reporting.”she stated.
