As part of efforts to strengthen interfaith dialogue and rebuild trust in communities affected by attacks, the Executive Private Secretary to the Governor of Plateau State, Chief Moses Nwan, mni, Ph.D., has engaged leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pushit District, in Mangu Local Government Area.
The meeting, which held on August 27, 2025, at the Assemblies of God Church, Tul Pushit Ward, drew reverends, pastors and leaders from various denominations including COCIN, Anglican, ECWA, Catholic, Baptist, Living Faith, Assemblies of God, New Life for All, Charismatic Renewal Churches, and the women and youth wings of CAN.
Chief Nwan, who was recently honoured by the United Nations as an Ambassador of World Peace, explained that the interface was part of a broader initiative to strengthen the role of religious leaders in peacebuilding.
He recalled that he had earlier met with Muslim leaders across Mangu, stressing the importance of balanced dialogue among faith groups, especially in the face of recent attacks and rising community tensions.
He said, “The true foundation of peace is rooted in God. Unity and love within the body of Christ remain the surest pathway to lasting stability in our communities. I call on leaders and congregants alike to return to God in humility and prayer, because the church is the bedrock of peace promotion.”
Chief Nwan underscored the need for unity among different denominations, urging leaders to act as examples of reconciliation. According to him, when church leaders stand together, their congregations will follow.
He added that politicians and public servants must equally rise above ethnic and sectional sentiments, embracing the spirit of love and togetherness.
“As ambassadors of Christ,” he cautioned, “we carry a responsibility to preserve harmony and build trust across divides. God’s judgment awaits leaders who fail to promote peace.”
Referencing his global recognition, the Governor’s aide noted that his mandate for peace transcended Plateau State, describing himself as both a son of the soil and an ambassador of world peace.
He reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to preaching peace and promoting harmonious living, while commending Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang as a God-fearing leader devoted to the peace and progress of the state.
“The Governor is deeply committed to ensuring that Plateau State experiences lasting peace,” he said. “This is why I am calling on the church to support him with prayers and partnership in this task.”
In their response, leaders of CAN Pushit District, led by their Chairman, Rev. Apostle Andrew Dangwel, expressed appreciation to Governor Mutfwang and Chief Nwan for their consistent peace advocacy.
They offered prayers for divine protection, wisdom and favour for the state leadership, pledging their readiness to work towards peace and development.
