The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) on Thursday aligned its structure with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring its readiness to mobilise its nationwide membership in support of Mr. Peter Obi’s entry into the party.
The position was made known by the COPDEM National Chairman, Prince Rwang Pam Jr., while addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Jos, alongside members of the coalition.
Pam said COPDEM operates a nationwide structure with a membership base of over five million Nigerians, adding that more than 20,000 of its members have already obtained ADC membership cards, a development he described as a boost to the party’s grassroots presence.
He said the coalition’s decision was driven by shared democratic values and Obi’s long-standing engagement with the ADC.
“Mr. Peter Obi’s entrance into the ADC is not merely a political movement; it is a statement of conscience. It is a declaration that Nigeria can no longer afford politics without principle, leadership without sacrifice, or governance without compassion.
“COPDEM is hereby assuring you – Your Excellency – that you are not alone in ADC; the over 5 million members of COPDEM are already looking forward to this great event. These 5 million and growing remain your trusted allies in this journey.
“Also, the over 20,000 COPDEM members that have picked up ADC cards will walk with you through thick and thin of this adventure.”He stated
Pam said COPDEM would deploy its structures across the country to support mobilisation, civic engagement, voter education and the defence of democratic values in collaboration with the ADC.
He also called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to actively participate in democratic advocacy, urging citizens to join COPDEM and contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
