The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State chapter, and a coalition of indigenous youth groups have alleged that at least 1,336 Christians were killed in Plateau State between December 2023 and February 2024.
The figures were presented to journalists in Jos, accompanied by annexures containing detailed records from affected communities. The allegation was made during a joint press conference on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, addressed by the Chairman of the Ropp Regional Church Council of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo.
Speaking on behalf of the group, he said the figures were drawn from documented reports compiled from communities across the state.
Presenting what he described as verified records, Dachomo said the figures were supported by extensive documentation circulated to the media, including annexures containing victim lists, district reports, photographic evidence, maps, and community records.
He said:“ “According to our records, an estimated 1,336 Christians were killed in Plateau State alone between December 2023 and February 2024. These are not assumptions. These figures are drawn from community records, victim lists, district reports and photographic documentation which we have circulated to you as annexures.
“The annexures are filled with names. They contain dates, locations and evidence of attacks across Bokkos, Mangu, Barkin Ladi and other parts of Plateau State. These documents are not mere paper; they represent real people who were killed in targeted attacks.”
Dachomo said the documentation reflects only confirmed cases, stressing that killings were continuing even as the report was being finalized.
“Even as this paper is being finalized, the killings continue. Just recently, twelve Christians were killed in a fresh attack in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area while the victims were engaged in mining activities.

“This incident is not yet included in our annexures. This shows that the scale of violence is expanding faster than documentation can capture.”
According to him, the annexures further document repeated attacks on predominantly Christian communities, resulting in the destruction of homes, churches, and schools, as well as the mass displacement of residents from their ancestral lands.
“Documented evidence shows that thousands of Christians have been murdered in targeted attacks. Attacks are launched against specific, predominantly Christian communities.
“Not a single Muslim settlement has been recorded as attacked in our records. What we are seeing is one-sided violence directed at Christian communities.”he added
The groups described the briefing as a formal submission of evidence to the public and relevant authorities, noting that the figures presented do not capture the full scale of the violence due to ongoing attacks.
Copies of the full report, including all annexures in both hard and soft formats, were made available to journalists at the briefing.Alright now my SEO tools Title, metaphase description, keyword focus, tags with commas, category, Facebook teaser with emojis and hashtags
