Langtang North Chairman Approves Distribution of Instructional Materials to 160 Schools

The Langtang North Local Government Council has distributed instructional learning materials to 160 schools across the local government area in a move aimed at improving teaching and learning at the basic education level.

The exercise, approved by the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, covered 142 public primary schools and a number of private schools as pupils resumed for the new academic term.

The materials include number charts, weather charts, shapes and other classroom aids meant to make lessons more interactive and easier for pupils to understand.

Presenting the materials on behalf of the chairman, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Shalkur Haruna Mamdam, explained that the intervention was informed by gaps observed in the availability of basic teaching aids in many public schools.

We noticed that some of these teaching aids are not readily available in public schools. The idea is to bring instructional materials directly into classrooms so that pupils can see, touch and experience learning first-hand, similar to what obtains in many private schools,” he said.

Mamdam added that the distribution was part of a promise made by the chairman to the people of Langtang North, noting that the timing of the intervention would still make a positive impact on teaching and learning.

We are here to deliver on a promise. Promise made, promise kept is the conviction that drives this administration. Although we intended to distribute the materials before resumption, doing so at this point remains timely and impactful,” he added.

The Education Secretary of the Langtang North Local Government Education Authority, Mrs. Tabitha Wazhi, described the gesture as a boost to public primary schools, saying it would make classroom teaching easier for educators and improve learning outcomes for pupils.

This administration has shown uncommon commitment to the education sector, both in staff welfare and in making learning easier for pupils. These materials will go a long way in improving classroom delivery,” she said.

Teachers who benefited from the distribution also welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely. A classroom teacher, Changcit Selchak, and a headmistress from Government Science School, Zamko, Changcit Selchum, said the materials would help pupils better understand lessons and participate more actively in class.

The council said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen basic education and support schools at the grassroots level in Langtang North.
