Langtang North Chairman Rewards Best Teacher and Strengthens School Supervision

The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has rewarded the area’s Best Teacher with a fully sponsored two-week pilgrimage to Israel and approved five motorcycles for the Local Education Authority (LEA) to improve school supervision across rural communities.

The initiative is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to improve basic education, motivate teachers, and strengthen oversight in the local government area.

A classroom teacher, Nanbel Nimlang, emerged as the overall Best Teacher after a transparent, multi-stage selection process conducted by the Langtang North LEA.

An 11-member committee, including representatives from the traditional council, former education secretaries, and zonal education officers, oversaw the exercise.

“This recognition is not just a reward, but a motivation to institutionalise excellence and inspire innovation in teaching,” Mr. Nimlang said, expressing appreciation for the support from the Chairman and the LEA.

The program, which began at the school level and progressed through zonal stages, has already improved punctuality, strengthened classroom delivery, and restored professional competition among teachers across schools in the area.

The five motorcycles approved for the LEA are intended to enhance the mobility of supervisory officers, especially in hard-to-reach communities.

According to the Chairman, this measure will ensure more frequent school inspections, better accountability, and improved learning outcomes.

The presentation of the reward and motorcycles was witnessed by Plateau South political leader and senatorial aspirant, Napoleon Bali, who also pledged to sponsor Mr. Nimlang’s Master’s degree program, reinforcing the culture of continuous professional development in the local government.

Education stakeholders described the initiative as a model for other local governments seeking to improve teaching standards through motivation and accountability.

With this dual approach of rewarding excellence and strengthening oversight, Langtang North is positioning itself as a leader in grassroots education reform, demonstrating how political will, teacher motivation, and effective monitoring can drive sustainable improvement in schools.
