In a coordinated crackdown targeting both street-level violence and digital incitement, the Plateau State Police Command has arrested 21 suspected members of the notorious Sara-Suka cult group alongside two individuals accused of spreading fake and inflammatory content on social media.
The arrests, carried out across the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, signal a dual-front strategy by the Command—tackling cult-related violence while also confronting the growing threat of misinformation capable of triggering unrest.
The operation was driven by a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, who ordered intensified patrols and raid operations across all divisions to reinforce security, particularly during the Ramadan period.
Providing insight into the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said, “The Command arrested a Social Media fake news peddler and 21 suspected members of “Sara-Suka”, a cult syndicate notorious for terrorising innocent citizens within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.”It will be recalled that early this month, a viral Tiktok video posted via the handle; @townboii1, was making rounds on Social Media. In the video, the individual was making certain inciting comments aimed at causing chaos within the State.
“The Command is pleased to announce to the public that the originator and owner the said Tiktok account, one Mohammed Shuaibu Adam, male, 16 years and his accomplice, one Auwal Ilyas Abdullahi, male, 19 years old, both of Rikkos, Jos have been arrested by the Command.
“The police said both suspects were tracked and apprehended following the circulation of the video, which had raised concerns about its potential to inflame tensions within the state.
Alabo further disclosed that the suspects confessed during interrogation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
He added, “As part of efforts put in place to curb crime and criminality and ensure a peaceful Ramadan celebration, the CP had directed all Area Commanders, DPOs and Tactical Team Commanders to heighten Patrol and Raid Operations within their areas of responsibility.
“Consequently, 21 suspects were arrested at various locations within the metropolis. The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation at the State CID and will soon be charged to Court for onward prosecution.
“CP Bassey Ewah commends the efforts of our officers who worked tirelessly on the field to ensure that these arrests were possible, and encourages them to intensify their efforts in ensuring the safety of Plateau citizens and flushing all criminal elements out of the State.“
Beyond the arrests, the Command’s message was clear—security operations will remain sustained, with a renewed focus on dismantling criminal networks and preventing the spread of dangerous narratives online.
Residents were also urged to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, with assurances from the police that measures are firmly in place to safeguard lives and property across the state.
