Another guber aspirant quits APC in Plateau amid political realignments

Political realignments in Plateau State gathered momentum on Tuesday as a former governorship aspirant, Hon. Sunday Garba Biggs, resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), less than 48 hours after another frontline aspirant defected from the party.

Biggs, in a resignation letter dated April 21, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward II in Mangu Local Government Area, said his decision takes immediate effect.

The former aspirant cited ongoing political developments and personal convictions as reasons for quitting the party, noting that the move followed deep reflection despite his longstanding commitment to the APC.

“I write to formally tender my resignation from the APC with immediate effect,” he stated.

Biggs explained that he had been an active member of the party for over four years, during which he served in various capacities and also contested as a governorship aspirant in the last general election.

“During this period, I had the privilege of serving the party in various capacities, including offering myself as a governorship aspirant in the last general election, among other responsibilities aimed at advancing the party’s ideals,” he said.

He, however, pointed to recent political realignments across the country as influencing his decision to chart a new course.

“However, in view of the current political realignment across the country and after deep personal reflection, I have resolved to take a different path in pursuit of my political aspirations and in alignment with my convictions regarding the evolving national landscape,” he added.

Biggs did not disclose his next political platform, but his resignation comes amid growing shifts in the Plateau political space ahead of the 2027 elections.

His exit follows closely the defection of another frontline governorship aspirant and former Commissioner in the state, Hon. Jude Eli Dakur, who recently left the APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

Political observers say the back-to-back developments may signal an emerging realignment of political forces in the state as aspirants reposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.
