Medical doctors in Plateau State have given the state government a fresh seven-day ultimatum, warning that they may embark on strike action if lingering salary and welfare issues are not addressed.
The warning was contained in separate statements released by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Plateau State Specialist Hospital chapter, and the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners of Nigeria (NAGGMDP). Both groups expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as prolonged delays in resolving key demands affecting their members.
The ARD lamented that the state government had yet to respond to a request submitted in December 2025 seeking an upward review of doctors’ salaries in line with the current national pay structure.
According to the association, the delay has contributed to the continued migration of medical personnel from the state, placing additional pressure on the already stretched healthcare system.
The group warned it could withdraw services if concrete action is not taken before the ultimatum expires on April 27, 2026.
In a similar development, the NAGGMDP faulted the non-implementation of the corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and other approved allowances from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.
The practitioners called for full implementation of the revised salary structure, payment of outstanding allowances, and application of CONMESS 7 for eligible members.
They emphasized that their demands are based on existing agreements and are necessary to boost morale among medical workers and ensure effective healthcare delivery across Plateau State.
Both associations cautioned that failure by the government to act within the stipulated timeframe could trigger industrial action, a move that may disrupt medical services in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Government had not issued an official response.
