2027: ADP adopts consensus candidates in Plateau, targets APC

By Akudiang Comfort, Jos

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) on Thursday adopted consensus candidates for the 2027 general elections in Plateau State, with party leaders expressing confidence in their chances of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The consensus primary and affirmation of candidates took place at Azi Nyako Youth Center, Dadin Kowa, Jos, and attracted party stakeholders, supporters, and aspirants from across the state.

Speaking during the event, the Plateau State Chairman of the party and Plateau North Senatorial candidate, Hon. Bitrus Boyi Ngah, said the ADP is fully prepared to challenge the APC in the next elections, insisting that Nigerians were already yearning for change.

“What determines victory is not just the name of a political party, but the desire of the people for change. When people are tired of a system, they come together to elect credible individuals,” he said.

Ngah stated that the party had credible candidates, clear ideas, and a people-oriented manifesto capable of winning public support across the state and beyond.

“ADP has what it takes to win. Elections are not all about money; they are about conviction and the ability to connect with the people. The people have heard our message, and by God’s grace, we will win the elections,” he added.

The ADP chairman also addressed the issue of insecurity in Plateau North, describing the persistent killings and attacks in communities as unfortunate and unacceptable.

According to him, legislators have a responsibility to strengthen the country’s security architecture through effective laws, improved intelligence gathering, and adequate funding for security agencies.

“We will lobby for adequate funding, improve intelligence gathering, encourage inter-community and regional collaboration, and ensure that the right personnel are deployed to address the security challenges facing Plateau North,” he said.

Ngah further accused the current administration of politicising insecurity, insisting that Nigeria has the capacity to overcome its security challenges with proper leadership and commitment.

“The insecurity we are witnessing today has taken many dangerous dimensions that should not be allowed to continue. Sadly, the current government is not doing enough, not because Nigeria lacks the capacity to end insecurity, but because everything, including human lives, has been politicised,” he stated.

Also speaking, the ADP Women Leader in Plateau State, Mrs Ifeoma Pearl, congratulated the party’s candidates and urged members to remain united and committed ahead of the 2027 polls.

“I urge you all to remain steadfast in your various wards. When the time for elections and campaigns comes, we will all stand solidly behind our candidates,” she said.

Similarly, the party’s Jos East House of Assembly aspirant, Dr Azi Musa Goje, called on members to remain focused and resolute ahead of the elections.

“This is a time for change. Nigerians are tired of what the ruling party, particularly the APC, is doing. We need change, and that change is going to come through the ADP,” Goje said.
