APC chieftain quits party in Enugu after “deep introspection”

Mr. Onyanta Arinze Gideon, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has stepped down from the party, ending his involvement at the ward level.

In a resignation letter dated April 20, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman of Amokwe Ward in Udi Local Government Area, Gideon said his decision takes immediate effect. He explained that it followed a period of “deep introspection,” noting that leaving was not easy given the bonds and unity he shared with members of the ward.

“I have withdrawn my membership from the APC and therefore cease to be a member of the party,” he stated.

Gideon thanked party faithful and stakeholders in Amokwe Ward for their role in strengthening the party’s foothold in the area, describing their efforts as instrumental in making the ward stand out within Enugu State.

He also reflected on his time in the party as an honour, praising the commitment and resilience of members. According to him, it was a privilege to work alongside individuals whose “selfless and indomitable spirit” helped shape the party’s growth at the grassroots.

The letter, however, did not outline any specific reasons for his resignation or indicate his next political move. His departure nonetheless comes at a time of shifting political undercurrents in the state, particularly at the grassroots level where party structures remain key to mobilisation and local influence.
