APC youths protest delay, allege plot to alter Jos-South primary results

Concerned youths and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State have alleged attempts to manipulate the outcome of the party’s House of Assembly primary election held on May 20, 2026, warning against any move to substitute the will of party members.

Addressing journalists at the APC Secretariat in Jos, spokesperson of the group, Comrade Andrew Dalyop, expressed concern over the failure of party authorities to officially announce what he described as the authentic result of the primary election more than 48 hours after voting concluded peacefully across the local government area.

Dalyop said the delay had created anxiety among party faithful and raised suspicion of possible interference with the outcome of the exercise.

According to him, members of the group are in possession of documents showing what they believe to be the genuine results of the election, alongside another set of figures allegedly inconsistent with the actual votes cast during the exercise.

“We are not asking anyone to take our word for it. We are asking the relevant authorities and the public to carefully examine the documents and verify the true outcome of the election,” he said.

The group maintained that party members who left their businesses, farms, homes, and daily activities to participate in the primary deserved to have their votes respected, insisting that democratic processes within the party must not be undermined.

They alleged that any attempt to impose a different outcome after voting had concluded would amount to a betrayal of internal democracy and could damage the trust built among party members across districts in Jos-South, including Vwang, Kuru, Gyel, Zaang, and Du.

The stakeholders stated that based on results known to party members at the conclusion of voting, Hon. Mancha John Vincent scored 4,326 votes to emerge winner of the primary election.

The group therefore called on the national leadership of the APC to urgently intervene and ensure that only the authentic result of the election is announced.

They specifically appealed to the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other relevant authorities to protect the integrity of the process and prevent what they described as attempts to subvert the mandate of party members in Jos-South.

While urging party supporters and youths to remain calm and law-abiding, Dalyop stressed that the group remained loyal to the APC and committed to peace and unity in Plateau State.

“Democracy is not strengthened by the power to announce results. It is strengthened by the courage to announce the true result,” he stated.

The stakeholders warned that mishandling the situation could heighten political tension and erode public confidence in the party’s internal democratic process.
