Bloggers’ Association Backs Dangote Refinery, Vows to Counter Misinformation Online

The Bloggers, Vloggers and Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA) has pledged to use its digital platforms to counter misinformation and defend national projects such as the Dangote Refinery from false narratives circulating online.

President of the association, Mr. Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, made the commitment during a media briefing at BAVCCA’s National Secretariat in Abuja, following a 15-man delegation’s visit to Dangote Industries Limited in Lagos.

He described the refinery as a national asset representing Nigerian ingenuity and resilience, noting that protecting it from sabotage or misinformation is a patriotic duty for every Nigerian.

Our visit to the Dangote Refinery was not just a tour but a pilgrimage to witness firsthand the embodiment of Nigerian innovation and vision

We have a responsibility as digital storytellers to amplify the truth, counter falsehoods, and promote national unity through verified information.” He said

Chukwunyere said the team’s interaction with Dangote Industries’ Vice President, Mr. Edwin Devakumar, revealed the depth of sacrifice and commitment that went into realizing the $20 billion project, which now refines 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily and employs over 65,000 Nigerians.

He recalled Devakumar’s testimony on how Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s belief in the project’s potential drove him to sell most of his assets to sustain construction when many investors doubted its feasibility.

The BAVCCA President also lauded the achievements of the Dangote Fertilizer Plant, which produces over 3 million metric tonnes of urea annually, placing Nigeria among global agricultural powerhouses.

He disclosed that the association’s forthcoming national conference, slated for October 31 in Abuja, would spotlight the contributions of the Dangote Group and explore the role of digital content creators in strengthening public trust in national development projects.

“In an era of fake news, we must use our platforms to educate, inspire and unite Nigerians, Our digital voices can either build or break confidence in our economy—and we choose to build.” He emphasized.
