In a bid to foster stronger collaboration between the military and the media, officials of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Folunsho Oyinlola, at the division’s headquarters in Rukuba, near Jos.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Chapel, Polycarp Auta, said the engagement was a strategic step towards building mutual trust and promoting a peaceful and stable Plateau.
He emphasized that the chapel, which comprises seasoned journalists from reputable national media outlets, remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at ending insecurity across the state.
“This visit offered us a unique opportunity to explore areas of collaboration with the military, especially in shaping public narratives that foster peace and unity in Plateau State,” Auta stated.
In his remarks, Maj.-Gen. Oyinlola, who also heads Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), commended the media for its pivotal role in shaping public perception and ensuring accountability.
He, however, urged journalists to maintain professionalism and embrace balanced reporting that would not only de-escalate tensions but also contribute to building a safer and more prosperous Plateau.
The GOC assured the journalists of the military’s readiness to partner with the chapel, stressing that such synergy is essential for promoting accurate information and advancing the collective good of citizens.
