General Abubakar Advocates Collaborative Efforts for Peaceful Coexistence between Military and Civilians

In a notable address at the 2023 annual West African Social Activities (WASA) event, held at the Headquarters 3 Division Training Ground, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, Plateau State, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos Plateau State, has emphasized the critical role of collaboration between the military and civilians in achieving lasting peace.

General Abubakar lauded the commendable level of cooperation observed between security agencies and members of the public on the Plateau, attributing the prevailing peaceful atmosphere to these collaborative efforts.

Acknowledging the region’s historical struggles, he commended the progress made and urged sustained collaboration, stating, “No doubt, peace and security are dear to all of us, and I urge us all to continue working together as a team to solidify this hard-earned peace.”

The General, addressing the audience on Friday, highlighted the significance of the annual WASA event, describing it as more than mere merrymaking.

He emphasized its deeper purpose of strengthening bonds, solidifying unity among personnel, and fostering positive civil-military relations.

“It’s about deepening the critical aspect of comradeship, solidifying unity amongst our personnel, and fostering positive civil-military relations. It’s about showcasing the beautiful cultural tapestry of our barracks community and celebrating the peace we’ve worked hard to achieve,” General Abubakar remarked.

Reflecting on the historical challenges, including ethno-religious clashes and farmer-herder conflicts, General Abubakar praised the collaborative efforts that have contributed to the current tranquil environment.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation witnessed and urged continued teamwork to uphold the hard-earned peace.

As the Special Guest of Honour, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier General Gakji Shipi, commended the Nigerian Army for its pivotal role in restoring peace and security to the region.

Brigadier General Shipi highlighted the positive impact on tourism and the overall development of the state.

“The peace and security enjoyed today is a result of the concerted efforts of the military and other security agencies in support of the government’s determination to restore the state’s glory,” Brigadier General Shipi stated.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and promoting the state’s cultural potential for further exploration.

“We will work tirelessly until Plateau State once again achieves its slogan as the Home of Peace and Tourism,” Brigadier General Shipi declared.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances, including traditional dances, music, and artistry, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region and underscoring the importance of cultural diversity in unifying the nation.
