A socio-political group, the Plateau North Unity Forum, has endorsed Professor Danladi Atu as its preferred candidate for the Plateau North senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement, the group said, was based on Atu’s experience, integrity, and commitment to fostering unity in the zone.
Speaking at a press briefing, the forum’s representative, Da Timothy Kim, said the decision followed a critical review of past representation in Plateau North, which he described as inadequate and a major factor in the area’s slow development.
Kim explained that the forum comprises stakeholders drawn from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds across the six local government areas in the zone, with a mandate to bridge longstanding divisions rooted in ethnicity, religion, and culture.
He said the group operates on the philosophy, “Our Diversity, Our Strength,” which underscores unity as the foundation for sustainable development and effective representation.
According to him, the endorsement was not driven by political sentiment but emerged from a deliberate search for a credible and capable leader.
“Plateau North requires a leader who is tested, trusted, resilient, and committed to the common good. Representation must go beyond occupying a seat; it must be transformative and responsive to the needs of the people,” Kim said.
He highlighted Atu’s track record in public service, noting his tenure as chairman of Jos North Local Government Council and later as Secretary to the Plateau State Government, where he demonstrated inclusive and people-oriented leadership.
Kim also cited Atu’s involvement in grassroots peacebuilding and community development initiatives, describing him as a unifying figure in a region often challenged by ethno-religious tensions.
“In a region that has faced ethno-religious challenges, Professor Atu stands out as a bridge-builder with a strong commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence,” he added.
The forum further noted that Atu has gained the confidence of young people through mentorship and empowerment programmes, while maintaining a reputation for transparency in public service.
It expressed optimism that his experience and network would attract investments and development opportunities to Plateau North, particularly in education, poverty reduction, and social cohesion.
