Plateau LG Election: CPSST and Project n19 Host Sensitization Workshop in Collaboration with SA Inter-Party Affairs Office

With the highly anticipated Local Government Election in Plateau State set for October 9th, stakeholders have emphasized the importance of ensuring a violence-free electoral process.

This call for peaceful elections was made during a sensitization workshop organized by the Centre for Peace Sustainability and Social Justice Tolerance (CPSST) and Project n19, in partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Inter-Party Relations.

During the workshop, Hon. John Akans, the Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, addressed the attendees, explaining that the primary objective of the sensitization is to prepare political parties and their candidates for a fair and peaceful election at the local government level.

Akans affirmed Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to conducting an election marked by harmony and the true expression of the people’s will.

He further assured participants that under the leadership of Governor Mutfwang, the Plateau State Government is dedicated to making the upcoming local government election a notable departure from past practices, ensuring that the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) upholds a free, fair, and credible electoral process.

Keynote speaker Professor Francis Kwede underscored the imperative of a non-violent election, urging the state to learn from its history. Professor Kwede also appealed to PLASIEC to honor its commitment to allowing the electorate’s wishes to be reflected in the election outcomes.

Many attendees, including party chairpersons and candidates from all 11 political parties participating in the election, expressed their gratitude to the organizers, stating that the workshop effectively equipped them for the upcoming electoral challenge.
