Residents of Dalyoho and seven other communities in Chugwi Ward, Vwang District, Jos South LGA, now have access to electricity following the installation of a long-abandoned transformer facilitated by Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
The transformer, initially donated in 2015 by former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dalyop Gwalson Fom, remained uninstalled for nearly a decade despite multiple political promises.
It was only after the intervention of Dr. Bere that the project was finally completed, ensuring stable power supply for the benefiting communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Dalyoho on Tuesday, Dr. Bere reaffirmed Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to rural electrification, emphasizing its role in economic growth, small business development, and improved healthcare services.
He said, “Electricity is central towards boosting small businesses and enhancing economic development. This initiative will go a long way in making the youths more productive and improving the economic activities of the communities.”
He highlighted Governor Mutfwang’s strides in the power sector, including signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria to provide solar power, issuing a Certificate of Occupancy to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited for electricity expansion in Southern and Central Plateau, and collaborating with the European Union to provide solar power to primary healthcare centers.

“The governor inaugurated the Nigeria Solar for Health Project (NISHP) to provide solar power to over 25 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
“This initiative is aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery, particularly in rural communities,” he said.
He urged the benefiting communities to take responsibility for maintaining the transformer and other government projects, saying, “I charge the communities to take ownership and ensure that government projects meant for their well-being are protected and properly maintained.”
His Royal Highness, Da Gwom Chugwi, Da Mandung Atyos, appreciated Governor Mutfwang for appointing Dr. Bere, describing him as a leader who understands the needs of the grassroots.
He said, “What DOPPA has done is a testament to entrenching governance at the grassroots, and I encourage him to continue sustaining the tempo.”

The Councilor representing Chugwi Ward, Hon. Gyang Amos, also commended the effort, emphasizing its importance for development.
Meanwhile, the Chugwi Community Development Association (CCDA) presented an award of excellence to Dr. Bere for promoting grassroots development.
