In a significant move to assist vulnerable children, the Plateau State government has announced plans to support those who have dropped out of school due to ongoing inter- and intra-communal conflicts. This initiative aims to ensure these children are able to continue their education.
Representing the Commissioner for Higher Education, Director Goyomma Iliya emphasized that the government remains committed to aiding children in their educational pursuits, particularly as the state addresses a state of emergency in the educational sector.
He highlighted the recent attacks in the Jebbu Miango Community of Bassa Local Government Area, which have contributed to a sharp increase in school dropouts.
Moreover, Sunday Danbim, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, commended the efforts of various organizations in enhancing the lives of vulnerable children in displaced communities.
He assured that his ministry would collaborate with these organizations to support the children through partnerships in various initiatives.
In this spirit, Executive Director Army of the Child Foundation, in conjunction with the Claire Aid Foundation, Shuwargwe Damak, announced their focus on child education, advocacy, and welfare.
This partnership aims to provide children with opportunities to enhance their skills and engage in literacy programs designed to improve their communication abilities.
Furthermore, she noted that these innovative approaches would empower vulnerable children with valuable skills that could enhance their livelihoods while allowing them to continue their education.
Claire Nenkinan Deshi, Director of the Claire Aid Foundation, reiterated this commitment by stating that the primary objective is to inspire and uplift vulnerable communities in Jebbu Miango, with a strong emphasis on child education and advocacy.
In response to these initiatives, several children expressed their gratitude, highlighting that the skills they have acquired will be beneficial in practice. Consequently, they called on the government to enhance school facilities by deploying additional teachers, thereby improving the overall educational environment.
