In the early hours of Thursday, August 10, a tragic attack on Heipang village in the Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state left 21 people dead and 13 critically injured.


According to spokesperson for the Operation Safe Haven, Captain Ola James, The multi-security task force, responsible for maintaining peace in the state, confirmed the incident and reported that troops had been deployed to the community following the tragic attack.
According to Capt. James, there had been an early warning that bandits might attack the area, prompting the operation to establish checkpoints.
Unfortunately, the attackers found another route and took the community by storm.
He stated that their men are currently tasked with restoring law and order in the area. John mark Pam, brother to one of the victims and the State Youth Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the northern zone, was an eyewitness to the tragic event.
He revealed that the attackers raided the village, murdering his brother, his family, along with others. The young family of Dung Mark, including his wife and children, were also among those killed in the tragic attack.
This incident marks the second attack on Heipang village within a two-month span, with a twin murder in June 2023.
The recent surge of village attacks across Plateau state, committed by herdsmen, persists despite the chief of army staff’s recent visit and his orders to his troops to aggressively tackle the raiding herdsmen.
