Wase Emirate Council denies endorsing Lalong’s 2027 senatorial ambition

The Wase Emirate Council has distanced itself from reports circulating on social media alleging that the Emirate endorsed former Plateau State Governor and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong, for the 2027 senatorial election.

The Council described the reports as disturbing, insisting that the Royal Father remains a father to all and does not engage in partisan politics.

The statement explained that royal blessings extended to visitors at the palace should not be misconstrued as political endorsement, stressing that the palace maintains neutrality in political matters.

According to the statement, “The Council finds the report disturbing, considering the fact that the Royal Father is a father to all and extends royal blessings to every individual who visits the palace, irrespective of political affiliation.

“Such a gesture by the Royal Father should not be misconstrued as a political endorsement, as the Royal Father is neither a politician nor a card-carrying member of any political party.”

The Emirate Council further dissociated itself and the Royal Father from what it described as the purported endorsement of any particular candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

It warned that false political narratives could fuel unnecessary tension among residents at a delicate period for Plateau State.

“The Council therefore wishes to distance itself and the Royal Father from the purported endorsement of any particular candidate.

“The Council believes that such reports have the tendency to create unnecessary animosity among the peace-loving people of Plateau State, especially at a time when the state is gradually overcoming security challenges experienced in the recent past.”

The Council also advised politicians and their supporters to conduct their activities with decorum and responsibility in the overall interest of peace, unity, and development of Plateau State.
