3 Division Nigerian Army to conduct live-fire exercise in Plateau

The Headquarters of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, has announced plans to conduct its annual Range Classification Exercise at the 3 Division Small Arms Range in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The exercise is scheduled to hold from Monday, April 20 to Friday, May 8, 2026, and is aimed at assessing and improving the marksmanship skills and firing capabilities of officers and soldiers within the Division.

In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Olukoya, the Division described the training as a routine but critical military activity designed to maintain high standards of professionalism among personnel.

The statement read in part: “The annual Range Classification Exercise is a crucial activity designed to evaluate and enhance the marksmanship skills and firing capabilities of the officers and soldiers of the Division.”

“It is essential for maintaining high standards of proficiency required for personnel serving in the Nigerian Army.”

Olukoya noted that participants would be using live ammunition throughout the duration of the exercise, stressing the importance of strict adherence to safety measures.

He therefore urged residents, particularly those living in Miango and surrounding communities, to stay away from the exercise area during the period to avoid danger.

“In view of the above, Headquarters 3 Division hereby informs the general public, particularly residents of Miango in Bassa Local Government Area, to keep off the exercise area,” he stated.

The army spokesperson further reassured residents that the sound of gunfire expected during the exercise should not cause panic, describing it as part of a planned and controlled military operation.

“While the sound of gunfire may be heard during the aforementioned days, we kindly request that you do not panic, as this is a planned and controlled military activity,” he added.

The Division also called on media organisations to assist in spreading the information widely to ensure public awareness and safety, while appealing for the message to be translated into local languages.

“In light of this announcement, we urge all media outlets to help disseminate this important information to the public for their awareness and safety.”

“Additionally, it would be appreciated if this message could be translated and shared in local languages to ensure comprehensive understanding within the community,” the statement stressed.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and urged residents to cooperate fully throughout the exercise period.
