Plateau State is set to host the 2025 edition of the Plateau Cultural Carnival from December 12 to 14 in Jos, in what organisers say will promote tourism, strengthen peacebuilding efforts and stimulate the local economy.
The announcement was made by the Chief Convener, Deborah Jalmet, during a press briefing held on Monday at the NUJ Secretariat, where she described the carnival as a growing platform for cultural preservation, creative expression and youth engagement.
Salmet said the event, now in its third year, is designed to showcase the state’s heritage while creating opportunities for small businesses, artisans, hospitality operators and creative industry players.
She explained that the carnival is also aimed at reshaping public perception of Plateau State by presenting its culture, diversity and artistic identity to a wider national audience. This year’s edition will run under the theme “Sounds of Plateau.”
Activities planned for the three-day celebration include a celebrity city tour, a street concert, a cultural parade, school competitions, exhibitions showcasing art and crafts, culinary displays, theatre performances and a closing gala with award presentations.

Several Nollywood personalities are expected to attend and participate in various segments of the programme, alongside cultural troupes, performers and creative groups from within and outside the state.
According to the organisers, an increase in visitor traffic, media coverage and hospitality business activity is expected during the period of the event, with a projected rise in patronage for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and local vendors.
Jalmet noted that the carnival has the potential to evolve into one of Nigeria’s most recognisable cultural festivals, contributing to Plateau’s economy while reinforcing its identity as a home of peace. The Plateau State Government, relevant ministries, private organisations and development stakeholders are among those supporting the 2025 carnival.
Security agencies will also be involved to ensure coordination, crowd control and public safety throughout the duration of the programme.
“As we count down to December 12th to 14th, we invite both Plateau indigenous people and citizens across the country to join this laudable event and celebrate culture. The Plateau Cultural Carnival 2025 stands as a beacon of unity, creativity and cultural pride,” Jalmet said.
