PEPSA seals two Jos restaurants over poor sanitation

The Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) on Saturday sealed two restaurants in Jos over poor sanitary conditions, while also flagging concerns of child labour during its routine end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise across the state.

Although movement was not restricted, the agency maintained active monitoring to ensure compliance with sanitation standards and inspected key public locations.

A notable highlight of the exercise was the voluntary clearing of a drainage by members of the Isa El-Buba Foundation. The initiative was commended as a demonstration of civic responsibility and community partnership.

During inspections in the Old Airport area of Jos, PEPSA sealed Madam Calabar Restaurant and Calabar Restaurant over unkept surroundings and poor sanitary conditions.

The agency also discovered minors working at one of the affected establishments, an act that contravenes child labour laws. The matter has been referred to the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Caroline Dafur, for further investigation and appropriate action.

Director-General of PEPSA, Samuel Dapiya, reiterated the agency’s commitment to promoting a cleaner and healthier Plateau State, stressing that “environmental standards must be upheld consistently and not only during the monthly sanitation exercise.”.
