The Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Hon. Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, has thrown his weight behind the Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA) in its push for responsible digital media practices across the country.
Justice Baba-Yusuf gave his endorsement on Wednesday when he received the leadership of BAVCCA on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja, where discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the judiciary and Nigeria’s growing digital media community.
BAVCCA President, Mr. Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, who led the delegation, said the association represents a nationwide network of more than 5,000 professional bloggers, vloggers, and content creators dedicated to promoting ethical online conduct and digital accountability.
He explained that the visit was intended to foster mutual understanding and partnership between the judiciary and the digital media sector, adding that both institutions share the responsibility of advancing justice, transparency, and public enlightenment.
“Your Lordship, our visit today is to pay our respects to the judiciary, seek partnership for responsible online reportage, and establish a framework for collaboration in public education, legal awareness, and digital justice literacy,” Chukwunyere said.
Chukwunyere further disclosed that BAVCCA has launched a Digital Responsibility and Judicial Awareness Campaign designed to educate over 10 million social media users on ethical content creation and respect for judicial processes.
He appealed to the Chief Judge to serve as a patron of the campaign and support the association’s proposed Judiciary and Digital Media Conference billed for early 2026.
Commending the FCT Judiciary for its leadership in justice reforms and digital transformation, the BAVCCA President noted:“We have watched with admiration how Your Lordship continues to uphold the dignity of the Bench amidst growing societal pressures. The reforms you are introducing not only modernize the justice system but also open opportunities for accurate and transparent digital reporting.”
Responding, Justice Baba-Yusuf congratulated the association’s executives on their emergence and praised their effort to organize digital practitioners into a structured, self-regulating body.He described the initiative as a welcome development that would help promote credibility and discipline within Nigeria’s online media space.
“You have a very critical role to play in shaping public opinion. Lead rightly, promote truth, and ensure that your platforms contribute positively to the growth of our democracy,” Justice Baba-Yusuf said.
The Chief Judge also expressed willingness to co-host the Judiciary and Digital Media Conference alongside BAVCCA, noting that such engagement would help deepen dialogue between judges, lawyers, and content creators on the evolving intersection of law and digital technology.
The visit ended with group photographs, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership between the Bench and the Blogosphere in advancing ethical digital communication and accountability in Nigeria.
