BAVCCA, Surveyor-General Partner to Drive Digital Awareness for National Development

As part of efforts to strengthen national development through digital collaboration, the Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA) has opened discussions with the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) to promote public awareness and enhance digital visibility of government institutions.

During a courtesy visit to the Surveyor-General’s office in Abuja, the BAVCCA delegation led by its President, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, met with the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Abdulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, to explore ways of using digital media platforms for civic education, policy communication, and geospatial awareness.

Chukwunyere said the partnership aims to reshape how Nigerians understand the work of technical government agencies and their role in national progress.

He explained that BAVCCA, which represents over 5,000 professional digital creators, bloggers, vloggers and online journalists, is committed to promoting truthful, ethical, and responsible online storytelling that supports government accountability and development.

Your office lays the foundation for Nigeria’s progress. Unfortunately, many citizens — especially the youth immersed in digital spaces — are unaware of how vital your work is to our national development,” he said.

He outlined areas of collaboration including joint public sensitisation campaigns to showcase OSGoF’s achievements, a bespoke media workshop for creators covering land and infrastructure issues, and a 2026 awareness event tagged “Mapping the Future: The Role of Digital Media in Geospatial Development.”

He also proposed the establishment of direct communication channels between OSGoF and BAVCCA’s Digital Relations Unit to ensure factual and reliable reporting.

Chukwunyere commended the Federal Government for extending the tenure of the Surveyor-General, describing Adebomehin’s leadership as transformational and impactful in advancing geospatial data management and mapping systems.

BAVCCA is ready to be a strategic partner in promoting the visibility of government work, countering misinformation, and driving responsible civic engagement through digital platforms,” he added.

In his remarks, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Abdulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, described the visit as timely and forward-looking, stressing that the Office is open to partnerships that promote national enlightenment and innovation.

Whatever you cannot map, you cannot manage,” he said, while displaying a digital railway map linking Lagos to Calabar as an example of how geospatial data supports infrastructure planning and connectivity.

Adebomehin emphasised the role of digital platforms in bridging the communication gap between government and citizens, saying that collaboration with content creators would enhance public understanding of OSGoF’s contributions to governance.

He added, “Nigeria’s development depends on accurate data, shared knowledge, and the ability to communicate our work effectively. Together, we can make government data meaningful to the people.”

Both institutions agreed to form a joint partnership framework to drive national awareness, digital education, and the promotion of geospatial innovation across Nigeria.
