In a determined move to fight hunger and unemployment through sustainable means, the member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amb. Daniel Asama Ago, has launched a three-day empowerment training on agriculture and environmental management skills in partnership with the Federal College of Forestry, Jos.
The initiative, which falls under his flagship program tagged “Operation No Hunger,” aims to equip more than 250 participants with practical knowledge and modern techniques to build self-sustaining agricultural ventures.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmaker, Comrade Ajik Amos Ajik, Senior Legislative Aide to Hon. Asama, said the training marks a shift from traditional one-time relief efforts to long-term empowerment and food security.
“This program is meant to open people’s minds to new agricultural opportunities that can generate income and improve their livelihoods,” Ajik explained.
“We’ve distributed food items before, but those are temporary solutions. This time, the focus is on sustainability and helping people become self-reliant.”
Over the three days, participants are being trained in beekeeping, plantation establishment, agroforestry, mushroom and snail farming, as well as ICT in agriculture and photography—blending practical agricultural knowledge with modern technology.
Ajik further disclosed that the program is designed not just to teach but to empower. Beneficiaries will receive starter materials such as beehives, mushroom molds, nursery kits, and small cash support to help them start their ventures.
He emphasized that Hon. Asama’s empowerment drive is focused on long-term solutions that promote food security, self-reliance, and dignity of labour.
“This is a unique initiative. It’s rare to see such specialized training programs at the constituency level,” Ajik said.
“Even if half of the participants manage to sustain their businesses, we’ll have helped many families achieve stability and pride through honest work.”
A beneficiary, Miss Grace Ajik, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his commitment to equipping constituents with the tools to thrive in today’s evolving agricultural landscape.
She described the training as life-changing, adding that such opportunities give hope to young people who want to contribute meaningfully to the economy through agribusiness.
