As part of efforts to strengthen the Institute’s operations and promote professionalism among accountants on the Plateau, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Jos and District Society, Mr. Pam Musa Chung, FCA, ACTI, has pledged to prioritize the expansion of the District’s permanent office building, revitalize membership engagement, and press for the establishment of the ICAN North Central Regional Office in Jos.
Mr. Chung made this known on Thursday during his investiture as the 26th Chairman of the District Society and the formal inauguration of the 2025/2026 Executive Committee, held at the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), Revenue House, Jos.
While expressing gratitude to God and members for the opportunity to serve, Mr. Chung acknowledged the contributions of past leaders of the District, especially the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Tile Terhemba, for moving the District office to its permanent site in Rantya.
“Your efforts and sacrifices, especially for relocating our office to its permanent site, will not be forgotten. You’ve laid a solid foundation upon which we shall build,” he said.
He congratulated the newly inaugurated executive members and charged them to demonstrate unity and commitment throughout their service year.
“Though the task ahead of us is demanding, I believe with unity and shared commitment, we shall soar higher. This role is voluntary and must be done wholeheartedly as a service to humanity,” Mr. Chung stated.
He emphasized the need for teamwork among all members, urging experienced accountants to mentor the younger generation and for non-active members to be encouraged to participate in District activities.
“Let us collaborate, attend meetings, support one another, and uphold the ICAN motto of integrity and accuracy. Together, we will lift this District to greater heights,” he added.
Among the key focus areas for his administration, Mr. Chung said the District would begin foundation work for the expansion of its permanent office building to include a hall that will serve as a venue for meetings and Institute examinations.
He also noted that plans were underway to strengthen the ICAN “Catch Them Young” initiative by visiting secondary and tertiary institutions monthly to inspire future chartered accountants, and would seek a ₦500,000 bi-annual grant from ICAN Headquarters to support the programme.
Other focus areas include improving visibility of the ICAN brand through the media, enhancing welfare activities such as attending members’ weddings and naming ceremonies, strengthening ties with the Plateau State Government and corporate organisations, and correcting financial records of members.
Mr. Chung further reaffirmed the District’s commitment to work closely with ICAN Headquarters to ensure that the long-awaited construction of the North Central Regional Office in Jos—on the land already allocated by the Plateau State Government—is actualized.
The new Chairman also expressed appreciation to members for their physical and financial contributions to the District’s progress over the years, as well as the guests who graced the investiture ceremony.
“I thank our invited guests for honoring our invitation with your esteemed presence. We are deeply grateful. May our good Lord bless you and take you home safely,” he said.
He specifically extended gratitude to the Plateau State Governor for appointing Dr. Jim Pam Wayas as the Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, describing the gesture as a show of confidence in professionalism and local capacity.
