Mankilik quits Plateau Central race, urges party cohesion ahead of 2027 elections

Retired Naval Commodore and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Isaac Mashingil Mankilik, has withdrawn from the Plateau Central Senatorial primary race, citing the need to preserve unity and reduce political tension within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a personally signed statement issued Monday in Bokkos, Plateau State, Mankilik said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters across Plateau Central, stressing that peace and cohesion within the APC must take precedence over personal political ambition.

The former military officer, who campaigned under the “Security First” mantra, described the move as a strategic sacrifice aimed at strengthening the party and ensuring stability in the zone.

“True leadership is not just about holding office; it is about protecting the peace and unity of the people you aspire to lead,” he stated.

Mankilik also appealed to his supporters and members of the “Click Mankilik” political structure to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to the APC’s success in future elections, insisting that the movement’s mission to advance Plateau Central remains alive beyond his withdrawal from the contest.
