The Plateau Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has announced its readiness to participate in a nationwide protest organized by the national secretariat and other state councils to address the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.
Scheduled to begin on February 27th for a duration of two days, the protest was initiated on February 16th by the NLC in response to the widespread economic challenges impacting citizens nationwide.
Despite speculations of a possible cancellation due to security concerns, Mr. Eugene Manji, Chairman of the Plateau NLC, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that the state council had made the necessary preparations for the protest.
Manji stated that the state executive council had held a meeting to finalize arrangements and called on all NLC affiliates to mobilize their members for the protest set for Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have just completed the meeting for the final mobilization. As I speak to you, we are still at the venue of the meeting, and we are going ahead with the protest tomorrow,” he stated.
He urged all NLC affiliates to mobilize their members for the protest, emphasizing the need for mass participation.
Manji assured that adequate security personnel would be deployed to prevent any potential disruption by unruly individuals.
Additionally, he revealed plans for the NLC to hold a meeting with security agencies to finalize security arrangements for the protest.
He further disclosed plans for the NLC to hold a meeting with security agencies later on Monday to finalize the security arrangements for the protest.
The protest aims to draw attention to the economic hardships faced by Nigerians and to stand in solidarity with workers and the suffering masses.
