The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has described former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah, as exemplary statesmen whose leadership style remains a reference point for democracy, good governance, and national unity in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, the forum congratulated the two leaders on their milestone birthdays, with Jonathan turning 68 and Attah 87, saying their legacies continue to influence Nigeria’s political evolution.
Igali noted that both men have played critical roles in shaping Nigeria’s democratic journey — from Jonathan’s globally commended peaceful transfer of power in 2015 to Attah’s policy stewardship, constitutional advocacy and contributions to public sector reforms.
“Your dedication to nation-building, democracy, and the pursuit of greatness has earned you a revered place among Nigeria’s most illustrious leaders,” the statement read.
PANDEF commended the duo for championing conversations around justice, equity and regional inclusion, particularly in the Niger Delta.
The forum credited them for advancing the debate on fiscal federalism and resource control, including the landmark implementation of the 13 percent derivation principle.
Igali added that their enduring contributions go beyond politics into academia, architecture and public policy, setting standards for leadership and public accountability.
“Your contributions to academia, architecture, politics, and public service have not only shaped Nigeria’s destiny but inspired generations to strive for excellence,” he stated.
The statement also prayed for continued strength and good health for the celebrants, quoting Psalm 91:16: “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
PANDEF described the two leaders as “pride of the South-South and Nigeria at large,”noting that their lives will continue to serve as a model for emerging leaders.
