Over 900 constituents across Plateau North Senatorial District have benefited from empowerment programmes, employment facilitation and educational interventions undertaken by the Senator representing the zone, Distinguished Senator (Prince) Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, JP.
The lawmaker disclosed this on Thursday while unveiling his performance scorecard at a press conference in Jos, where he outlined interventions spanning empowerment, agriculture, education, employment and infrastructure.
Dachungyang said his activities in office have been driven by a five-point agenda centred on practical representation, women and youth empowerment, functional education, peacebuilding and legislative responsibility.
He explained that although he assumed office in February 2024 and is yet to complete a full budget cycle, available windows within the 2024 budget framework were maximised to deliver tangible benefits to constituents.
“It is important to point out to the press, that so far, I have not been able to see through a complete budget cycle yet. By the time I came in, the 2024 budget had already been passed into law. The only item I got from that budget was the Zonal Intervention Project (ZIP) and later the supplementary budget
“The former I used to carry out an empowerment in October, 2024 at Zang Commercial Secondary School in Bukuru where over 200 women and youths benefit the training in poultry and other agricultural training. The later, being the supplementary budget, was done recently, with over 700 constituents across Plateau North Senatorial District who did benefited from that empowerment,” Dachungyang stated.
He said beneficiaries of the empowerment programmes were trained in various agricultural value chains and supported with starter packs and cash grants, while others received farm inputs including fertiliser, knapsack sprayers and herbicides.
According to him, 22 beneficiaries were also provided with brand-new special-purpose tricycles to enhance economic productivity.Beyond empowerment, the Senator said deliberate efforts were made to tackle youth unemployment and improve Plateau North’s access to federal employment opportunities.
“To further address youth unemployment, we lobbied and saw to the completion of a Skills Acquisition Centre in Riyom Local Government Area, aimed at equipping young people with practical, income-generating skills
“In the area of employment, I have facilitated pensionable jobs for numerous constituents in various government agencies. Beyond this, I have continued to push for increased federal placements for Plateau North citizens and have been at the forefront of assisting many in transferring their services from the state to the Federal Civil Service,” the Senator emphasised.
On education, Dachungyang said interventions were carried out to ease the financial burden on students and prevent disruption of their studies. He disclosed that WAEC fees were offset for students of Government Secondary School, Kwata, Jos South, and Government Secondary School, Riyom.
He further said tuition fees were settled for Plateau North students at the Maritime Academy, Oron, who were at risk of being expelled, while financial support was also extended to constituents studying at the Aviation College, Zaria, alongside students in various primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the senatorial district.
The lawmaker said agriculture remains a priority area of intervention, noting that fertiliser distribution to farmers has been institutionalised as an annual programme in alignment with national food security goals.
He also revealed that the 2025 budget captured the construction and rehabilitation of health centres and power projects across the district, including the provision of transformers and solar street lights to communities previously without electricity, with some of the interventions already impacting parts of Riyom Local Government Area.
Dachungyang assured constituents that projects approved under the 2025 budget would commence in January 2026, expressing confidence that sustained engagement and continuity would yield improved development outcomes across Plateau North.
