Young media professionals and aides to Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, have been urged to use their platforms to counter misinformation and promote development-focused narratives online.
The call was made during the 2025 Plateau Social Media Day, which was held to commemorate the governor’s second year in office.
The event featured a mix of civic activities and project tours across Jos and Bukuru, but the strongest message centered on digital responsibility.
In his remarks, Director General of the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), Engr. Dominic Datong Gwaman, charged youths to use their influence to tell the truth and promote peace.
He stated: “Today is a very wonderful day in the life of the social media personnel on the Plateau. One of the major things that is supposed to happen on social media is to tell the truth about things that are happening.
“Unfortunately, bad publicity is being provided on social media. Today, we are proud that a group of social media personnel are gathering to commemorate the two-year anniversary of Governor Mutfwang, celebrating all the projects that he has done.
” We really thank them for that feat. And we hope that other people who are using social media for the wrong reasons would learn from them.”
He stressed that considering Plateau’s history of ethno-religious crises, positive engagement online is not just necessary—it is urgent.
Also, The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Barrister J.K. Chris, also spoke during the event. He commended the aides for aligning with the administration’s drive for a cleaner, safer environment.
The media team had earlier taken part in a sanitation exercise within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
“Today, we witnessed a great awakening among the young people in Plateau State, especially the media aides who keyed into the vision of clearing our waterways, drainages, and refuse to combat the devastating effects of flooding.” He noted
Social Media Day activities kicked off with a novelty football match between Team Plateau State Executive and Team ALGON, a symbolic show of unity.
The aides also toured several infrastructure projects—including the Tudun Wada–Kabong Road, the Uton Kong–Abattoir Overhead Bridge, the new JMDB Bukuru Market, and the recently acquired Metro Buses under the Tin City Metro initiative.
For the Director General of the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), Mr. Samuel Dapiya, the actions of the young media aides stood out as a model for others.
“For me, this is the highest form of patriotism—that the media aides of the Executive Governor of Plateau State have identified the need to evacuate waste within the city center.
” It’s a call for every young person, irrespective of your political party or geography, to participate in environmental sanitation.”
First marked in 2022, Plateau Social Media Day was established to raise civic awareness, encourage government accountability, and foster responsible online behavior. The 2025 edition reinforced one message: the youth have the tools to shape the Plateau they want—one verified post at a time.
