PLASIEC Revises Election Schedule Amid Protests

In light of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests and the curfew imposed in Plateau State, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has updated its activity schedule in preparation for the local government elections, which are still set for October 9, 2024.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak, Chairman of the Commission, explained that the changes were necessary to ensure that no political party would be marginalized, particularly those that had arranged their primaries and communicated with the Commission amidst the protests and curfew in the Jos/Bukuru area.

Cishak emphasized that the adjustments are designed to facilitate a smooth electoral process while upholding the integrity and fairness of the elections. He assured the public and all stakeholders that the modifications will not jeopardize the transparency or equitable nature of the electoral proceedings.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all political parties, candidates, and voters as we address these challenges. PLASIEC will continue to provide updates and additional information as needed to ensure an effective election process,” he stated.

Despite these changes, Cishak confirmed that the local council elections for the seventeen local government areas in Plateau State will proceed on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

He reiterated PLASIEC’s commitment to fostering a fair environment for all political parties, ensuring that no entity faces disadvantages due to the revised schedule.
