The Plateau State Coalition for Progressive APC has called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that such a move would better position Plateau State within the current national political landscape.
The coalition made its stance known during a press briefing in Jos, saying it had “broken its silence” after closely observing political developments at both the state and national levels. It cited recent events at the PDP national convention in Ibadan as evidence of rising internal conflicts and leadership challenges within the party.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Aliyu Abubakar said the call reflected changing political realities.
“This call is not made lightly. It is born from a sober assessment of the current political realities and a deep-seated desire to secure the best possible future for Plateau State,” Abubakar said.
“The PDP is a sinking ship, consumed by internal warfare and lacking a clear vision for Nigeria. To remain in such a party is to anchor Plateau State’s destiny to a vessel of chaos and perpetual opposition.”
The coalition argued that Plateau State shares closer alignment with the APC-led federal government, and that a shift would enhance governance and foster collaboration at the federal level.
It also claimed that the loyalty of citizens lies more with Governor Mutfwang himself than with his current party affiliation. Citing remarks from former lawmaker Hon. Dachung Bagos, Abubakar reinforced the coalition’s position.
Looking ahead to the 2027 election cycle, the coalition noted that national political realignments under President Bola Tinubu make the governor’s move to the APC “the most strategic course of action.”
“The time for hesitation is over. We urge you, Your Excellency, to heed this call from your people. Let us consolidate your achievements and secure the future of Plateau State by joining the All Progressives Congress,” Abubakar added.
The coalition concluded by urging the governor to lead his cabinet, advisers, and willing PDP stakeholders into the APC.
