The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has called on Plateau communities to unite and declare “enough is enough” to the violence that has plagued the state for over two decades.
He made the call on Sunday in Jos while representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a condolence visit following the recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area that left over 54 people dead.
Ribadu, who led a high-level delegation, conveyed the President’s deep sorrow over the killings, assuring the people of Plateau that the federal government remains committed to restoring peace and security across the state.
“On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I am here to greet the people of Plateau and extend his condolences over the recent crisis. The President is deeply concerned and says: enough is enough,” Ribadu said.
The NSA praised the efforts of security agencies in swiftly responding to the attacks, but emphasized that enduring peace must be anchored in community cooperation and reconciliation.
“Our security forces have done well. They acted swiftly to restore order and protect lives. But our communities can do even better.
” When people who live together fail to resolve conflicts peacefully, miscreants take advantage. We must now come together and say: enough is enough,” he urged.
Ribadu warned that although the frequency of attacks had reduced, unresolved tensions still leave room for criminal exploitation.
He commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what he described as visible progress in the state’s security architecture.
“In our own way, the federal government is working. The state government is working. The governor has been wonderful, and that’s why we have seen a relative improvement in the situation,” he noted.
He cautioned the media against amplifying unverified or exaggerated casualty figures, warning that misinformation could inflame an already volatile atmosphere.
“We have lost many people. But it’s not exactly like the figures you see out there. Even one soul lost is a lot.
“We appeal to the media to verify and report accurate, appropriate information. Telling the truth helps us get through this together,” he said.
Ribadu stressed that without peace, no society can thrive. “No progress, no growth, no development, no education, no health—nothing.
“The president is saying: enough is enough. It has to stop. Whatever we have done to achieve this relative improvement, we are going to double it. We will do more,” he declared.
Meanwhile, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to pursue justice for the victims of the Bokkos attacks and protect citizens ahead of the new farming season.
Addressing Plateau indigenes in Abuja, the governor condemned the orchestrated nature of the violence and warned that no perpetrator would escape justice.
“We will no longer allow those arrested for crimes in our communities to walk free. Anyone involved in spilling the blood of a Plateau citizen will be pursued and brought to justice. None of them will go scot-free,” he stated.
He disclosed that some masterminds of the recent attacks have already been arrested and assured citizens that new strategies were being rolled out to ensure farmers’ safety as the planting season approaches.
Mutfwang said the pain of the people was his own, and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the bloodshed does not derail the state’s path toward reclaiming its identity as the Home of Peace and Tourism.
He appreciated President Tinubu for his swift response to the attacks and for directing federal agencies to deliver relief materials to affected communities.
He also praised security agencies for their interventions and appealed to citizens to uphold the values of unity, hard work, and tolerance.“Our strength lies in our togetherness,” he said. “We will farm this year. No amount of intimidation will stop us.”
