Ahead of the upcoming local government Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Concerned PDP Members (CPM) are urging the party leadership to prioritize transparency and fairness in the electoral processes.
The group’s concerns stem from fears that previous court litigations may result in the loss of seats in both the state and National Assemblies. Arch Macham Makut, Chairman of CPM, voiced the group’s apprehensions after handing over a letter to the party chairman at the state secretariat.
In the letter, CPM commended HE Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and the State leadership for recent electoral victories. “It is indeed a testament to the acceptability of His Excellency and the trust reposed in your leadership by the members of our great party,” the letter read. The group also offered condolences to those who lost their seats due to legal disputes and to the victims of a recent tragic school building collapse.
The letter addressed various pressing issues, stressing the importance of inclusivity, fairness, and justice within the party. “Our party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stands for inclusivity, equity, and justice. It is imperative that these principles are upheld at all levels of party governance,” Makut emphasized.
He also highlighted complaints about unfair practices by certain Local Government Area (LGA) party executives, who are accused of showing favoritism and neglecting members who do not align with their interests.
furthermore, CPM raised concerns about the uneven distribution of relief items, such as fertilizers and other gifts from the Governor, which has led to discontent among party members. “Furthermore, there is a prevailing sentiment of dissatisfaction regarding the unequal distribution of palliatives from the people’s Governor. Such disparities only serve to deepen divisions within our party,” the letter stated.
Makut also criticized the conduct of some LGA party executives, alleging that they have marginalized grassroots members and obstructed party activities. “The dominating attitude exhibited by some of the LGA party EXCOs has alienated grassroots members and hindered cohesive party operations. Credible intelligence suggests that the LGA Party Chairmen and their Secretaries have rerouted support for personal use, marginalizing the very foundation of our party—the people.”
In response to these issues, CPM called on the State Party Chairman to intervene promptly. “The accusations of injustice and favoritism threaten to undermine the unity and integrity of our party,” Makut expressed.
He urged the chairman to investigate the widespread calls for second terms from various LGAs, ensuring a fair assessment in line with party principles. The CPM demanded decisive action and expressed confidence in the chairman’s leadership. “We are confident that under your capable leadership, these issues can be addressed with the urgency and fairness they deserve. We look forward to your prompt response and action on these critical issues”.
