Plateau state police commissioner, CP Okoro Julius Alawari, held a press briefing on Monday, 4th September 2023 at the Command Headquarters in Jos, to provide an update on recent police operations.
Alawari, alongside the forces of the Command, offered his sincere thanks to the government and the citizens of Plateau State for their unremitting support since his appointment as the Commissioner of Police.
Alawari acknowledged that their high rate of success could not have been accomplished without the ongoing cooperation and crucial information received from the peace-loving residents of Plateau State.
He also outlined several strategies to prevent crime and safeguard lives and property that have been implemented, including intensifying efforts towards arresting and prosecuting criminals.
Highlighting the police forces’ achievements, Alawari confirmed the arrest of a suspect connected to the kidnap of seven students from the University of Jos, which occurred on 12th June 2023.
The suspect, a 30-year-old male, Salisu Adamu, from Minta village, Bassa LGA, has been connected to the infamous Jos Prison jailbreak of 2020. Apparently, the abduction suspect, who confessed to his crimes, had also named other members of his gang – who are currently at large.
The police made notable breakthroughs when they arrested another suspect responsible for a culpable homicide, arising from a disagreement involving two friends, resulting in death.
The accused, Fredrick Cirman of Zarmaganda area in Jos South LGA, was arrested swiftly by the police. The presentation also touched on an armed robbery and culpable homicide case, where a female passenger was fatally assaulted by her driver under the pretense of a car breakdown.
The offender, Safiyanu Sulaiman, was arrested days later while attempting to sell off the deceased’s goods. In another remarkable accomplishment, the police, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two notorious criminals known as“Hitman”and “Small Seth” wielding locally made revolver pistols and illicit drugs.
The suspects were connected with a series of robbery incidents at the Gada-Biu and Rukuba road axis in Jos North LGA.
A culpable homicide case was also highlighted, wherein four suspects, Friday Yakubu, Longul Dabor, Sati Samuel and Yakubu Barnabas had been arrested in connection to the gruesome murder of a man named Kanladi Dazun, whose body was found decapitated and mutilated.
 In another arrest, one Isaac Dung was apprehended on suspicion of vandalising and stealing armoured cables from JED transformer.
The CP went on to brief on a disturbing defilement case, where an elderly man named John Mahana had allegedly taken advantage of two young girls, aged 4 and 8. Medical examinations subsequently confirmed signs of sexual assault.
The police also arrested a suspect, Usman Sarki, who escaped from the Jos prison jailbreak incident in 2020 and a military personnel, Fredrick Ebrakumor, who was apprehended for his alleged involvement in robbery, extortion and membership of a cult group.
 During the conference, Commissioner Alawari assured that more arrests are anticipated with ongoing investigations. He encouraged successful cooperation between the police and the citizenry to ensure safety and order within Plateau State.
