Plateau United suspends planned logo change after fans’ backlash

Plateau United Football Club has suspended its planned change of the club’s official logo following strong reactions from supporters and other stakeholders.

The decision followed further consultations and a review by the club’s management, which said the views of supporters must be considered in decisions concerning the identity and future of the Jos-based club.

Chairman of Plateau United, Al-hassan Yakmut, reaffirmed the importance of supporters in shaping decisions that affect the club.

The proposed logo redesign was initially introduced as part of efforts to strengthen Plateau United’s brand, improve merchandising opportunities, expand its commercial prospects and bring the club’s identity in line with modern trends in global football.

However, the reaction from supporters against the proposed change has prompted management to widen its consultation process before any new emblem is adopted.

Under the new arrangement, three proposed logo designs will be presented to supporters and other stakeholders for consideration. One of the designs will subsequently be selected as the club’s new emblem.

Management clarified that the existing Plateau United logo remains the club’s officially recognised emblem pending the conclusion of the consultation process.

Yakmut also assured supporters that their opinions would remain central to the decision-making process, stressing that they are key stakeholders in the club.

The club apologised for any inconvenience or concerns caused by the initial announcement and assured supporters that their views would be taken into account in determining Plateau United’s future visual identity.

The suspension of the proposed change means the club will retain its current emblem for now while consultations continue with supporters and other stakeholders.
