
The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has provided ₦100,000 cash and food support to 300 vulnerable residents of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State under the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) intervention.
The programme, held on Monday in Riyom, aimed at supporting households affected by recurring civil unrest and economic hardship in the area.Health and Care Officer of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ms. Nina Garba, said the intervention was part of the organization’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to assist communities in distress.
In his remarks, the NRCS Training Officer, Mr. Munir Adda, assured beneficiaries of a transparent and fair disbursement process, urging them to make good use of the support.Also speaking, the NRCS Communication Officer, Mr. Mafeng Mark, said similar assistance would be extended to other vulnerable groups across the region.

Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Sati Shuwa—who also serves as the Red Cross Patron for Plateau and Bauchi States—commended the organization for the gesture, describing it as timely and life-saving.
He urged the society to sustain its humanitarian outreach, especially to communities grappling with displacement and insecurity.
Many beneficiaries, overwhelmed with emotion, shed tears of joy and expressed gratitude to the Red Cross and its partners for the assistance.
