In response to the economic downturn in the country, Senator Diket Plang, representing Plateau Central of Plateau State, has launched an empowerment initiative for 4,500 constituents in a bid to alleviate hardships triggered by the removal of petroleum subsidies.
Senator Plang, who also serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment, and Productivity, announced the initiative during the launch of the program in Mangu, a local government area within his senatorial district.
According to him,The program includes both the distribution of funds and provision of training across five local government areas in the district. The senator emphasized the initiative as a contribution towards the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in mitigating public suffering, particularly those affected by recent crises within his constituency.
“President Tinubu’s intentions for the country are noble; our nation’s current trials are part of his administration’s strategy to revitalize and stabilize the economy. Without lifting the subsidy, the economy may further spiral downwards. This initiative is primarily aimed at aiding the most vulnerable – women, youth, and the elderly – in these daunting times,” He Stated.
Senator Plang urged senior citizens to continue praying for the nation and its leaders, noting the need for their spiritual support in navigating numerous challenges facing the country.
During a visit to the Kanam local government area, the senator paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness Alh Muhammadu Mu’azu Muhammadu III, where he outlined his mission and discussed federal government policies.
He encouraged his constituents to collaborate with security agencies and promptly report any threats to peace.
In response, His Royal Highness expressed appreciation for the senator’s proactive approach in launching the empowerment program. The monarch emphasized the program’s potential in significantly relieving the targeted beneficiaries’ hardships and urged the senator to focus on youth empowerment, specifically in providing job opportunities for school graduates.
