Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang

In his first year in office, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has implemented a series of strategic initiatives and achieved notable accomplishments that have had a significant impact on Plateau State. His administration has prioritized security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth. Let us take a closer look at the achievements and challenges Governor Mutfwang has faced.

Security has been a top concern in Plateau State, and Governor Mutfwang has taken proactive steps to address it. He has provided 34 Hilux vehicles for community vigilance and rapid response teams, working closely with the 17 Local Government Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen to bolster the state’s security infrastructure.

Governor Mutfwang’s administration has made significant strides in boosting the local economy. His government has distributed over 15,000 bags of rice and 10,000 bags of maize as palliatives to alleviate the impact of inflation. Moreover, plans to distribute 200 trucks of fertilizer to farmers at discounted rates reflect a strong commitment to supporting agriculture, which is the backbone of Plateau’s economy.

The introduction of mass transit buses has also generated around 1,000 jobs, contributing to efforts to reduce unemployment and stimulate economic growth. Additionally, the formal recruitment of local vigilantes into security roles has not only improved safety but also created job opportunities for youths, especially in conflict-prone areas.

Infrastructure improvement has been another priority for Governor Mutfwang. Several construction and enhancement projects have been initiated to bolster connectivity and facilitate economic activities across the state. Executive Order 003, 2024 has been signed to regulate building construction and vehicular traffic, addressing urban congestion and safety concerns by ensuring compliance with established codes and regulations.

The governor has placed a strong emphasis on improving education and healthcare services. Notable appointments have been made to head major tertiary institutions, including Plateau State Polytechnic, College of Education Gindiri, and Colleges of Health Technology in Zawan and Pankshin. These appointments are part of efforts to improve management and financial stability within these institutions.

In the healthcare sector, a N590 million drug warehouse has been established to combat counterfeit drugs, ensuring the availability of genuine medications and enhancing healthcare delivery.

Financial management under Governor Mutfwang has been marked by transparency and accountability. An ambitious budget of N295.4 billion for 2024 has been introduced, with substantial allocations to key areas like security, agriculture, human capital development, and public health, highlighting the administration’s commitment to addressing critical needs and setting the stage for future development.

By promoting dialogue and reconciliation efforts, the governor aims to create a peaceful and collaborative environment conducive to development. Moreover, the establishment of a Victims Support Fund reflects his commitment to supporting those affected by crises, ensuring transparency and accountability while providing necessary assistance.

A significant step towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in governance was the introduction of the State Digital Performance Scorecard System, known as the ‘DASHBOARD’, as part of the Plateau State Development Framework (PSDF) 2023-2027. This system monitors and evaluates the performance of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, contributing to progress, efficiency, and stakeholder engagement.

Despite these achievements, Governor Mutfwang has faced challenges, particularly regarding ongoing violence in some parts of the state, which he has described as genocide. Additionally, managing the state’s debt and ensuring effective policy implementation remain pressing issues.

Nonetheless, Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s leadership has set a strong foundation for continued growth and development in Plateau State. His comprehensive governance approach aiming to address security, economic empowerment, infrastructure, education, and healthcare signifies a promising future for all Plateau residents under his leadership.

As he marks his first year in office, the people of Plateau State can anticipate progress and stability in the years ahead.
