NUGA 2024: UniJos Upgrades Facilities for Upcoming Games

As the University of Jos prepares to host the 2024 Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) in November, the institution is undertaking extensive facility upgrades to ensure a successful event.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, while inspecting the facilities, expressed confidence that they will be ready in time for the competition.

Projects include the rehabilitation and construction of various sports facilities such as cricket fields, a synthetic sandwich system athletic track, a hockey field, re-grassing of the football field, and rehabilitation of drainages.

Additionally, the taekwondo hall, damaged in a storm in 2020, will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation and receive steel roofing. Further upgrades involve the rehabilitation of the Social Sciences auditorium, a 200-capacity classroom, the Faculty of Law and Diplomacy at the Naraguta campus, and ongoing furnishing of offices, lecture halls, and laboratories for the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The Naraguta Country Club will also be rehabilitated.

During the handover ceremony, prof.Ishaya emphasized the importance of adhering to timelines and maintaining professional standards for the projects.

He highlighted the significance of these facilities not only for the NUGA games but also for ongoing academic and sports activities at the University. The Director of Physical Facilities was urged to closely monitor the projects for timely and appropriate completion.

Also The University’s Director of Physical Facilities, Arch Halima Auta, expressed high expectations for quality work from the contractors and stressed the benefits of the upgraded facilities for both the NUGA games and the University’s students. She emphasized the importance of strict adherence to deadlines without excuses.

In their separate remarks on behalf of their construction firms,Mr Mike Adamu and Mr. Nanzing Barko, assured that all projects would be executed in accordance with professional standards and completed on time.

With these preparations underway, the University of Jos aims to deliver an exceptional experience for participants and spectators at the 2024 NUGA games.
