The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has admitted 67 foreign students from 13 African countries into various undergraduate programs for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The students, drawn from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Niger, Cameroon, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Togo, and Zimbabwe, among others, were enrolled in disciplines such as Medicine and Surgery, Economics, History and International Studies, Computer Science, Law, Criminology and Security Studies, Nursing, Accounting, Business Management, and Pharmacy.

At a brief ceremony to welcome the new students, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to reviving its student exchange program, which had previously contributed to its international recognition.

He noted that the admission of foreign students was a significant achievement made possible through collaborative efforts between the university and key stakeholders.

According to Professor Ishaya, the foreign students went through the standard admission process, including sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.

He credited the Rochas Foundation College of Africa for playing a pivotal role in encouraging the students to choose UNIJOS after completing their secondary education.

The Vice-Chancellor specifically acknowledged Senator Rochas Okorocha, CEO of the foundation, for facilitating international academic exchanges and strengthening the university’s ties with foreign institutions.

Reassuring the new students of a conducive learning environment, Professor Ishaya expressed optimism that their stay at UNIJOS would be enriching and memorable.

Handing over the students to the university administration, Mr. Ashwe Felix, Officer in Charge of Operations at the Rochas Foundation College of Africa, stated that the students had received rigorous training and were well-prepared for their academic pursuits.

He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to providing foreign students with exposure to Nigeria’s education and culture, noting that over 3,000 foreign students were currently enrolled at the foundation, with more expected to seek admission into UNIJOS in the coming years.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Chris Piwuna, represented by Mr. Ibrahim Tella, congratulated the students on their successful admission and encouraged them to adhere to the university’s regulations.

He assured them of the institution’s support and urged them to maintain open communication with the university authorities regarding any concerns.

With the increasing international student presence, UNIJOS continues to strengthen its role as a center for academic excellence and cross-cultural collaboration within Africa.
